Victor Akpomon, is a Nigerian singer and rapper popularly known as Dr. Barz, he represents a form of divine creativity. He is simply defined as the creative god who reveals through refined lyrics – mysteries, like a prophet speaking the mind of a higher power; the mind of his people.

Dr Barz’ music is an expression of his vast life experiences, societal struggles and deep knowledge. With a unique voice texture and rhyme scheme likened to that of Kendrick Lamar, soul of J. Cole and the spirit of a Port Harcourt hustler, Dr Barz produces all shades of dope any day.

Early Life

Dr Barz was born in the early 90’s in Benin, Nigeria; he was raised in the southern city of Port Harcourt, his love for music began from his early years as he started writing music at a tender age of thirteen in high school.

Career

In 2017 Dr Barz teamed up with a home based producer “Beatboxx Xclusiv” to release his first single – “PH City” which received massive radio spins and reception. He released a series of singles afterwards alongside several freestyle videos that went viral.

In 2018, he released “This Is Pitakwa” inspired by Falz, made ties with ace producer KVC and together they recorded loads of wonderful projects, most notable was Gbege & GPH which earned him positive reviews worldwide, massive airplays and a guest performance feature at a TEDx event.

In 2019 he released the hit single Focus, his debut EP “Something Else” – a 6 track project consisting of versatile, spontaneous and magical musical sounds. Afterwards he was featured on Erigga’s “The Erigma II Album”, and shortly before his annual solo concert – Behind Barz, he released the single – “Behind Barz” which was an absolute banger, then accompanied by a single titled “20s” featuring Sami to wrap up the year.

He released a single in 2020. It took us along during the deadly cascading global COVID-19 pandemic till date; titled, “Corona Plandemic”. An apocalypse track, envisioning his path of truth and pure idealism, unveiling the blind fold on the eyes of his people, with very strong semantic, lyrical examination. He was featured on a song by DJJoenel, and he also got featured by Yung6ix in his album in the same year. 2020 was a good year for Dr. Barz.

In the year 2021, Dr. Barz has taken us on a new journey offering his deep musical transition into the depths of Niger Delta music folklore, drawing inspiration from the legendary “Man Must Wak” by Parley Brown, a surprising blend of Hip-hop and Afro-beats yet very intriguing. Dr. Barz brings the mind of cultural enthusiasts to correlate and feel their fascinating past i n highlife, without lacking innovation in his creation. The lyrics paints true stories, very meaningful especially to West Africans, even to their older generations and ancestors.

Said genius and creativity has kept him atop the music game, reforming sounds, making giant strides and inducting his style with fierce Hip-Hop and Afro structural blends right from the city of Port Harcourt.
